Default Re: DIY: Black Headlight Mod with Video Tutorial

Successfully got my Drivers side fixed. Even touched up a little spot that must have gotten nicked when I did them the first time.

I basically just heated it up and pulled it apart.. This time I took it a step further.. I practically removed every bit of the Factory RTV that I could.. I took a screw driver and just kept reheating the Lens parts and scooping out chunks of it. Then I ran down to the local Autoparts and found something new that I've never seen before.. It was RTV but instead of being in a squeeze tube it was in a can like Hair Mousse.. You just Bend the Dispensing Stem over and it comes out rather nicely. Allows you to precisely control where and how much RTV comes out.. So, I basically filled that little channel on the back of the lens with RTV and brought the two pieces together nice and firm and so far so good no more leaks and my little nick is repaired... I guess the next big rain storm will tell.

As far as my passenger Lens.. It was fogging up before so I reheated it but didn't pull it apart.. Instead I went around the entire area where the lens sits inside the RTV Channel and squeezed it a bit with a pair of pliers.. Hoping to fill or squish around the RTV in there to close any slight leaks..

So for you guys starting yours.. Just make sure you seal them really well.

Even washing the truck never caused any fogging but we had some good rain lately and I drove home from work in a nice down pour and now they're fogging up.. the drivers side worse than the passenger.. I need to open that one up anyway because I see a little nick inside.. The passenger side I"ll just reheat and try to squeeze around the parameter and hopes that I shift some of the sealant around to close up any small leaks..
