I used to drive a 2005 Corolla XRS before I traded it in for my 2006 Tundra V8, I can give you a little insight on the Lift.

Back in 2005 and 2006, Toyota released the XRS model of the Corolla that was equipped with a 2ZZ-GE engine. It was a 1.8L 4 cyl Yamaha built engine that was just...(sigh)...it was, and continues to be an amazing engine. It was also equipped with a 6-speed manual.

The engine has VVTL-i, the L standing for lift. On certain years of the engine, the Lift (like V-tec) engaged at around, if I remember correctly, 6200 RPM for the 05-06 model years. The redline was 8200 rpm. Heres a little more literature Toyota ZZ engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The car was fast. It wasn't stupid fast, but it was fast...for a Corolla. I remember it constantly ran at high RPMs.. I think going 65-70 on the freeway, the engine ran at like 3500 rpms. The engine in itself was loud, but when you would hit Lift, it was LOUD! Especially if you had a Injen CAI with a good muffler, that car would scream and literally turn heads.

Only downfall, with my car atleast, was the gas mileage. Even if you did run it slow without smashing the accelerator (hard not too) I couldn't get more than 20-22 mpg out of it, and it only took premium.

I was excited they brought back the XRS, but the previous one is WAY faster than the new one. WAY way way faster. Its a shame the engine is only used in the Lotus nowadays.

I encourage anyone to read about that engine. Any aftermarket part you put on it would just make it faster and louder. Most people that have the Corolla XRS wont let go of them. I was stupid enough to trade mine in for a gas hog, I wish I still had it. Here's some random pictures of my Corolla.

And here it is on the Used Car lot after I traded it in.

Sorry I hi-jaked your thread man! Great car.
