I was told that one of the problems could be the Catalytic Converter. There are no check engine lights, but the converter makes allot of heat ticking noise after I am finished driving.

How do I determine if the converter needs to be replaced. Also, any suggestions or comments for the aftermarket converters that are found in places like ebay?

Thank you.

If there were a problem with your cat it would have set the check engine light and a code into the ECM. The ticking sound isn't unusual because the cat gets hotter than blazes especially if something is wrong in the engines fuel, ignition area. You might want to have the ECM unit checked to see if it has any malfunction codes embedded into it's memory. Maybe another early model Camry owner or Toyota Tech member can add additional information for your situation.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
