Default Re: 1st GEN Tundra - what do you tow with it

Lots of towing, I have a car to drive if I don't need the truck.

I have an 01 ac, and I tow a horse trailer: but with donkeys- not so heavy as horses.

I had a 3500# tt which towed OK, but you could feel the weight, even with a WDH it was not an easy pull and going sloooow I could get maybe 12 mpg at best. I pulled that trailer from Florida out to Burning Man and beyond last August and spent about $2000 for gas.
I sold it.

I bought a2300# tt much easier! On the trip to pick it up I implemented some gas saving tips and could not believe the difference.
1. Removed brush guard
2. Filled up when the tank was 1/2 empty instead of waiting until the fuel light came on like I usually do.
3. Preferred filling up at night or early morning. Cooler gas is more dense.
4. Drove 65
5. Used a scan gauge so that I could monitor my MPG habits

RESULT: I got 22.9 MPG from GA to Indiana. Best I ever got!

Towing the little trailer on the way back, maybe 14MPG. But I didn't go that slow.

I also pull an open trailer with a tractor, golf cart or hay.
