I have read this elsewhere too. I rotate every 4-5K and not even close to bald when I removed them at 48K. Winter was coming and there wasn't enough tread to keep me comfortable for my commute, but they were certainly still legal. If it was summer, I wouldn't have replaced them and would have gotten at least 55k out of them.
One thing I forgot to mention was, as AT tires go, they are very quiet, but so are the LTX's.
