I know that some SQ owners have put 285/75/16 sized tired and had a bit of a rub but just how much of a rub is there and where? Is this just on HARD turns and on does it rub the Mud Flap or the inner shroud
The stock tires I have on when I bought the SQ are not bad, I am just looking for a new tire and I am wanting to do some kind of MOD to my Ride..
Hi Sanchez,
I have BFG 285/75R16 on stock Limited rims. Before my suspension lift, I had 3 main rub points. 1. Mud flaps had to be removed. 2. Required to take it easy on normal left or right turns into sloped driveways. I believe the undersided of the wheel well was the problem. 3. On tight U-turns, rubbing point was from the upper control arm.
You'll need to remove the mudflaps, take it easy on quick right or left turns onto sloped driveways, and avoid turning the steering wheel all the way on U-turns (may have to resort to 3 point U-turns). Other than that, freeway driving, parking, getting around town, was normal. I did this for about 3 months, then got a suspension lift...
after my 2.5" lift on the front and 2" lift on the back, I was able to relieve all of 1 (mud flaps re-installed) and 2, and really got close to resolving 3 completely. When the steering wheel is pinched all the way, you get a very slight rubbing - no big deal though. Currently the inside edge of the tire is about 1/2 inch away from upper control arm with the front wheels straight. I have had this configuration for about 9 months with no issues to peformance or ride quality.
Hope this helps.
