But what I really mean is more along the lines of that American Dream thread...if you're honest, it just means you're easier to screw. Being dishonest seems to be the only way to make a buck these days...just twist the system to your advantage, it's perfectly legal, and the government will force all the honest people to pick up the pieces.

Oh I got your sarcasm all right. And you're right about that. But I'm not sure if your cynicism is entirely right. Not to take on Jan's role (heaven forbid) but I know lots of honest people that are doing all right. And some of the dishonest people may have done OK in the markets, have a bigger plasma TV or what have you and they're no happier.
I believe that once you have enough to put food on the table for your family, you can enjoy some recreation, have good social contacts, and your health, more isn't better. It LOOKS better to those of us who have less, but some of the least happy people I know are those sitting on money that they got unfairly. Maybe legally, but there's a difference. It doesn't make them happier. In fact, it ties them down.
