I did this mod last summer and thought I got it right. Unfortunately, when the cold weather came back so did my squeak. A few weeks ago I took the old backer rod out and put a new piece in. This time, I didn't push it all the way in -- only about half way -- and the squeaks are gone. I think the key is having the backer rod push the dash straight out from the windshield, not up/down and out as would happen if you pushed the backer rod in too far. The rod is more noticeable this time -- not bad, but I couldn't see it at all last time -- but the noise is gone.
u might be right.. dont push it all the way in.
on mine i can see about about 1/4 inch of the rod. its gray color and so is my dash so its not apparent. i haventhad the squeaks come back on me...
