Default Re: 4Runner Head Gasket Recall??

Let me update everyone as I've had yet another personal experience with the late, not so great, 3.0 V6 and the infamous head gasket problem. I have a 1993 Toyota SR5 Xtra cab 4x4 Pickup which I bought used a few years ago. It had the head gasket replaced by toyota in 1998 for free, under the service campaign, after it severly overheated. Well it happened again about a month ago. No over heat, just started runnning a bit rough one afternoon then the next morning it billowed white smoke when I started it. I called the local Toyota dealer and spoke with a great gal who tried her best to help me out but after a week of back and forth calls she said Toyota Corp. was unwilling to do anything as it was already done once. They offered me a whopping 10% discount off the repair at their dealership. She said the labor is $1,400 (approx.) and the parts add another $300-$400. It sucks but what can I say the truck is 15 years old! I had a mitsubishi mighty max that blew head gaskets but they didn't do diddly to fix it. In any case the service campaign is still in effect but it's only for 3.0 V6 engines that have never had the head gasket replaced by Toyota.
