While I agree with the pressure washer comments, I am assuming this was a self wash bay at the car wash not a true pressure washer. If a part came off the wand and damaged your vehicle, then that is potentially negligence on the part of the car wash owner. I had a similar thing happen when I was 18 year old with a new car. The owner covered the cost to paint the section of my trunk that the wand nozzle scratched from shooting off the end. They have insurance for this express purpose and those signs saying they are not responsible for damage are for when it is truly not there fault like if you don't take off you antenna and it breaks. As an example, if a car wash scrubber broke off while you were going through, it would be their responsibility regardless of signs. But, once you leave the premise it will be harder to get them to do something.
