Re: 19.8mpg after HC removed!
I am convinced this mod works. I mostly drive stop and go, barely ever long distances, and have NEVER averaged even close to 14 mpg on a full tank, usually 12.5mpg - 12.7mpg in the winter and 13.2 - 13.4 the rest of the year . I've always payed attention to the mpg and I reset my mpg calculation after every fill-up. I was recently looking into getting a AFE CIA for some increased mpg, response, sound etc. So I thought I'd give this mod a try before pulling the trigger on a new intake, after all its free and I was going to remove the stock one anyway, so what could it hurt? Anyway, after removing the carbon filter and disconnecting the battery, I have been averaging 15.3mpg - 15.5mpg, on my last 2 1/2 tanks with the AC usually on and driving the same way I always do. I did notice with the first couple of days after the mod the mpg readings were all over the place, but since then it has leveled off and stayed pretty consistent. The throttle response has been improved slightly and I haven't noticed the exhaust being louder, however the engine is a bit louder at higher RPMs. Now with this mod, no CIA for me.
