I am also skeptical about the need to disconnect the battery. Sometimes rumors get started via internet gossip and they stick around so long that everyone assumes they are fact. Too bad we didn't have input from control systems engineers from Toyota to get the straight goods. That being said, it is important to keep an open mind about such things. Besides, it is not a huge deal to disconnect the battery and then see if there is improvement.
