Any time it involves parents, somebody will say or do something reflective of the size of the stick currently lodged in their fundament, versus the stick that should be regularly lodged wherever most couples see fit. I bet most of the parents didn't care, or didn't even know, but there's always that one "concerned parent" that seeks to be offended whenever possible.
It reminds me of the old Far Side cartoon, with the caption "the committee to decide whether spawning should be taught in school". Dunno if anyone else remembers it, but it always cracked me up...if ya haven't seen it, the point of the visual joke was that some people are frankly just not fit to judge certain things.
In this case, it's the complete inability of any "concerned PTO member" to objectively consider anything pertaining exclusively to grown-ups...or in other words, stop viewing everything through your child's eyes, at this rate they're gonna be more grown-up than you someday, and if they're that young and watching/listening to Howard Stern, you're doing it wrong. Uber Parental Fail!
We really need to stop treating teachers like this. It's like Sharia law but without the durka wrap. They're expected to be the epitome of Victorian sensibilities, as opposed to human, and way too much pressure is exerted on them by people who have no business judging adult behavior.
Another great spoof on this kind of reaction is the Family Guy episode where Lois gets fired for teaching Sex Ed and they bring in the holy roller to talk about abstinence instead.
Dunno how many of you have or are dating a teacher or someone working towards an education degree, but I'm sure a few of you know exactly what I'm talking about, particularly if she's young and pretty and you're a good ol' boy who gets his paws slapped a lot because she's a teacher and can't be seen doing
that (whatever it is) in public.
There is an awful lot of institutional pressure on female teachers to look, dress and act like dowdy schoolmarms rather than the beautiful girls many of them happen to be.
