If it was your old '79, I'd say maybe, but with all of the electronics on newer cars, it could be something completely obscure telling the computer to do something strange...or it could be a mechanical issue. The old "fuel, fire, or air" approach to diagnosing doesn't work quite as well as it did back in the day.

For the record, make sure you get a cleaner specifically for MAF sensors...anything else and you'll be adding a new sensor to the repair bill too.
