Even if I randomly have a problem with my transmission, my lift will void the Toyota warranty on it. And, as I have seen COUNTLESS dealerships do in the past, they can tie any warranty issues back to modifications by SOME means...
Perfect example.... I had trouble with my passenger side power window in my Tacoma about 2 years after I bought it. Took it in and they said "We are sorry sir. You upgraded your stereo system which voids any warranties on electrical components."
Ive even heard of people that have upgraded their headlight bulbs and it voided their warranty....

That is when you ask the dealer's service manager why the dealer hasn't sent him to a class on the Magnuson-Moss Act, and then ask him if he would explain that to your lawyer, and to put the refusal to provide warranty work and the reason for doing so in writing. Unless the warranty clearly and conspicuously states that it is voided by the addition of aftermarket parts, the entire warranty is not voided. Further, it is incumbent upon the manufacturer/dealer, to show the addition of the aftermarket parts created the damage to the parts that they are refusing to cover.
The real kicker is that the act also allows the plaintiff to recover damages
and costs if they prevail, creating a situation where a competent attorney in the field will possibly be willing to take the case on a contingency basis.
In short, if a dealer decides to play hardball, let them pitch to Reggie Jackson in October. (Hey, I'm old school, but you should get my point)
Oh, look here for good info:
