It sounds more like a production quality problem to me. I see a ton of problems that people are having on some trucks, but my '05 had been perfect except for the cab mount TSB. So some trucks are fine, some have a few problems and it seems like some are a complete POS. That is what happens when you don't have good manufacturing quality control, which was never a Toyota problem in the past. But it might be these days, particularly for Toyota products made in the good old USA.
