Re: 2005 Tundra DC HID Retrofit Progress
hey dibble,
very nice post man, it really helped me grasp an understanding of the work needed to do a retrofit.
i have a few questions (for you or anyone else involved in this forum) that I hope you can help me w/:
1. did u have to cutout a larger hole in the reflector to push the projector thru? (i.e. was the stock bulb hole large enough? i personally don't think so)
2. that is a FX 35 or 45 projector? are they the same size? i personally own a toyota myself but not tundra (corolla instead, family car) so i don't think there is much room to insert a larger projector.
3. did u only use 3 longer mounting screws to hold the projector in place? I believe they are just screwed into the reflector correct?
4. how did u wire up the solenoid on the projector? i took a look at the wiring dirgram and i couldn't figure it out. heh I assume that it will need a signal from the steering wheel lever (when you pull back on the switch) and a ground?
5. what parts of the projector did u trim off? i didn't get to see a pic of that.
6. i noticed that you were able to use the OEM black dust/end cap and I guess i should plan my cutting and mounting so that I don't have to modify mine either. lol, good thing to keep in mind. But then i noticed that you have to put aluminum tape around the end of the projector, so that means that it goes thru the black end cap? (i.e. you have to cut out a larger hole in the end cap for the rest of the projector to fit?)
7. did u use anything to seal up the back of the reflector and what did you use to seal up the clear lens with the housing, silicone or epoxy?
8. in the OEM headlight housing i know that the bulb is adjusted by 2 screws. how do you adjust the D2S bulb in the projector? are there 2 screws also? I'm curious b/c retrofitting just mounts the projector onto the reflector and is not connected in any way besides the 3 mounting screws...heh, there must be a way to adjust the bulb positioning...
wow, i know that's alot of questions from one post, heh...i apologize for that but i'm really interested in doing a retrofit and i don't think that i should be paying someone else a few hundred's to do this for me. besides, it'll be a learning opportunity for me as well. thanks for your time bro, much appreciated.
