Default Re: Timing Belt Change

I just had mine done in my '00 4WD Tundra at my local dealership.. Truck has only 32K on it - I requested the master tech that I've used before do the work.

I went into it telling them that I wanted them to do both the belt and the water pump and the cost was quoted at approximately $700 for both (along with the serpentine).
The master tech who did the job had the service advisor call me to tell me that it would be a waste of dollars to do the water pump after inspecting it... Even though he knew I had told them that I wanted it done, it was the tech's opinion that he couldn't bring himself to do it based upon what he's seen water pumps go more on mileage and not time and the fact that everything look "like new" when he inspected it.

Anyway, the total ended up being approximately $350 - labor plus new timing belt and serpentine belt and a coupon for the timing belt for free if they replaced it.
Dropped it off at 8:30 - I had it back at 5:00....

Hope that helps you with your price questions... and hope I don't regret not forcing them to change the water pump.

Dan
