Some of you may or may not know, but my occupation is a police officer.

What that info out of the way, yesterday my partner, his trainee, my ridealong and I went to a domestic disturbance. This house was a problem house with the girlfriend and boyfriend always fighting with each other. As we approach the house, I notice there is a big chain and bowl of dog food outside of the house.

The lady opens the garage door and a two year old female pit comes running out. I thought at first the dog was going to jump up on me, but insteads clamps on to my right foot. I yell at my partner to shot the dog while I was trying to kick it off of me. The dog released her grip for a second and bite me for a second time. Luckily I was able to taser the dog, but only one prong hit the dog. It did the trick and the dog started to yelp. It then ran inside the house. My next option was to unload a few .40 caliber slugs into the dogs head, but I was afraid of hitting my partners who were standing in front of me.

The dog bite through my boot twice (on the leather portion) and ripped my pants leg. There were two puncture wounds on my foot. Animal Control came out and took custody of the dog and issued the owner a citation. The medical clinic gave me a techni shot (My spelling is not the greatest). My arm hurts worse than my foot. The pressure from the bite hurt worse than the bite.

About a year ago, another officer and I responded on the same call. A pit came out of the house and tried to bite him, buy a 9mm round to the back put an end to that. A few months ago two pits killed a three month old baby in the city in work in. Both dogs were killed when the officers arrived and tried to attack them.

I know pits are getting a bad rap from the media, but I place most of the blame on the irresponsible owners. I am not mad at the dog, just the owner for being stupid. I later learned the pit who bite me just had puppies and may have been protecting her litter, but it still hurts.
