The facts:
2008 Tundra 4WD Crewmax SB 5.7 Ltd, MSRP $50,324.
Options: 20” Alloy Wheels; DVD Nav w/ BU Monitor; Daytime Running Lites; Fender Flares; Molded Dash Applique; Window Tint: XM Radio; Rear Organizer; “The Extra Mile Option Package” consisting of Custom Tape Stripe, Stainless Steel Exhaust Tip, First Aid Kit, Fabric Guard, Spare Tire Lock, Carpet mat Set, Door Sill Enhancements, running boards, Roadside Assistance (3/30k), Extra Miles Service Rewards Pgm (5/60k); Bedmat, and TRD Dual Exhaust. Total Cost the dealer quoted me for options is $7333.
Here’s what the dealer is saying:
He’ll sell it to me for $41,480 + TTL. (which includes the Feb Tundra rebate).
So what he’s giving me is a $50k truck for $41,480.
When I did some research to get the invoice price, I calculated $39,022 (Base ($38072) + Options ($4950) – Rebate ($4000).
I also read that he’s probably getting a Dealer Hold Back for about 3% of the MSRP ($1510) and a Factory-to-Dealer Incentive of $5000. So his profit would be around $8968 ($41480-39022+1510+5000). Given that he’s making almost $9k, I want to offer $36k to take it off his lot (making his profit about $3500).
BTW: there are 4525 miles on the truck (owner used it as a DEMO). Also, the rear bumper has a few rubs (must have hit a curb or a wall).
I also told him that since I’m in the military and an Alaska resident, that I’d title and license the truck there, and since there’s no sales tax in AK, that TX taxes would not apply (Soldier/Sailor Act). He replied I’d have to pay some documentation and transportation fees. I can live with these (about $850).
Here are the numbers, plus the fact that it’s practically classified as a USED truck. Am I asking too much of a discount? Or is he offering a deal I should take now (because of the Toyota Rebate)?
I know I only have 2 days left. Or I can take the luck of the draw and see if March has a better rebate.
Thx!
