It sounds like to me Rex, that you have the 4.7L motor. Is that correct?
My 5.7L DC TRD has a GCWR of 16000 lbs, and GVWR is 7100 i beleive. Really, IMO the main thing you need to be concerned about is the GAWR listed in the camper section of your manual, when concerning a fifth wheel. It's wise to NOT exceed these ratings.
The GAWR of my truck is 4150 rear and 4100 front, which is 8250 total. I have a 6200lb (dry) 5th wheel trailer with actual weights being 7500 mostly loaded for camping. I have actually weighed this setup. Please see thread in this section titled ' 5th wheel actual weights ' to see more.
I am within my GAWR of the truck with this trailer, that has a 1250lb pin weight.
It is not hard to exceed the 7100lb GVWR of this truck with a 5er. But if you stay within the GAWR you will be perfectly safe.
Yes, you should be able to find a 5er that would work. But with your truck having those ratings, i don't know.
