Default Re: DIY: Black Headlight Mod with Video Tutorial

Completed mine today....

Here is my experience....First thing, don’t be nervous about baking your lights. This was the only thing I was REALLY nervous about but it really wasn’t that bad. Just make sure you preheat your oven first. I preheated for about 20 minutes to make sure the entire oven was hot inside. I have a whirlpool gas oven and I baked the headlight for 11 minutes at 275 and it was perfect. Second... Choose a good paint. I used a rust-o-leum paint...see below and I do NOT recommend using this paint. It was very aggravating. The weird stray top kept popping off and it would spray in clumps. It took 5+ coats and sanding to get it looking right. I bought the steel wool but never used it. Third... make sure you reseal and rebake. I made sure mine had plenty of seal in it. It spilled over on the outside and I just trimmed it with a razor blade.

Forth... Have fun with it... Its a very cool and cheap mod. I think I spent $9 on everything. Waiting on the paint to dry is the longest process. Here are the pics.

Here is a video.
