Re: Factory cruise control install?
Well I went back to the scrap yard to find they took in more rusty framed Tacoma's and so now I have many parts as well as the cruise control system I was looking for. So I took the parts I needed home, actuator & cables, ECU, steering wheel switch and the clutch cancel switch. I installed it all in about 1 hour as all the plugs and screw holes where in place, even the cruise light on the dash and all the fuses where there! So then I went for a drive...the light went on when I hit the switch however when I hit "set" it kicked out the ECU and the cruise light started flashing. After much research and diagnostic testing I've come to the conclusion that the problem is the ECU as I removed the system from an automatic truck and mine is standard. There are a couple inputs from the main CPU to the cruise ECU for the automatic trans that look to be important for the operation of the system. Either that or the ECU is just screwed and will have to be replaced, the scrap yard will exchange it free of charge anyway.
I'll write more if and when I make this work. Just so you know I also grabbed a digital dash clock from a truck at the yard and when I removed the dummy plate on my truck to install it there was the plug for the clock already there waiting...that install took a whole 2 minutes!
If anyone has more info about what the problem with my cruise could be please let me know just note that I went through all the circuits and diagnostic testing so far with perfect results. Thanks, Tim
