I have always used Westley's tire bleach for cleaning tires and wheels, and I have owned Alloy, and Polished Aluminum wheels, and clear coated wheels, and it has no adverse effects on the finish. Purchased in the large bottle it is relatively cheap.

Stoner makes awesome products. That's the only glass cleaner I ever use for my vehicles and home.
I have used the Westley's on tires that have white letters on them and it works great, but if you accidentally leave it on the wheels for too long and it starts to dry, it can create a haze that is a bitch to get off.
