Default 1999 RX300 Reverse sometimes doesn't work.

About once a week, our RX300 just refuses to work in Reverse Gear. It will go in, but when the gas is pressed, it just revs as if it's in neutral.

On one occasion, we were able to rev it enough that it caught in a clunking way and was enough to get us out of a parking space.

It's very strange that it's so intermittent. All other aspects of the transmission are working perfectly, and even reverse works perfectly 99% of the time.

Any ideas?

Also, I don't know the procedure to check the tranny fluid. Neutral? Warm? Cold? Any help with that would be appreciated. I checked in slightly warmed up and parked with the engine off, and the fluid appeared to be VERY overfilled.

Thanks for any help!
