or you could drill a hole in the plastic plug the same size as the tubing so as to try and remain as water tight as possible....better yet...I've found the supplied tubes to be too small to let debris (leaves, seeds, pods, bits of mulch) pass thru...one winter I had a huge block of ice in the canister because the tubes were blocked and water didn't drain before it froze....thus I came up with the following mod which increases the tube size, prevents clogging, secures the tube and prevents it from getting knocked loose by sheets of plywood or anything else you throw back there, and makes the fitting attached to the canister water tight (supplied material is simply a compression fitting with a rubber grommet that doesn't stay in place when trying to attach the tube)....
