Yes, some buildings have a coating on them but I think a lot of the commercial and residential applications use double panes and low E gas between the panes. I think it's argon gas but not sure about that. I like the darker tint on my vehicle as well but it can be hard to see out of at night if they are really dark. Not to mention if you get the occasional cop who is just looking for an excuse to pull people over, that may be all the reason he needs. I would still be willing to bet that there are lots of people who like the benefits of reduced heat and UV damage without the negative aspects that darker tint can have.
