I looked at the 4runner, the pathfinder, the pilot, etc, etc etc before I chose to get nothing less than a 4runner.
Keep in mind I have been a long time loyal Honda customer, and cannot say enough about how good they have treated me. I Own an Acura car, and a Honda motorcycle, both have been more reliable than you could imagine.
Heres the problem, Honda does not make certain types of purpose built vehicles, trucks, SUVs, and Acura no longer makes sports coupes or sports cars.
Comparing the 4runner to a pilot is like comparing a 4runner to an all wheel drive minivan.
Honda makes excellent cars, the best, but when it comes to trucks, and SUVs Toyota are the best hands down.
If you dont go offroading, if you dont tow anything, if you dont have to deal with snow that much, if you want more interior space the Pilot is your vehicle.
Personally I bought my 4runner because I have a great reliable car for use on the road, when I dont need as much room, or when the roads are clear and dry.
Depends what you need, and what you want as to what you should get.
