Much truth in what you wrote. Most brands of conventional oil are more alike than they are different, and all are good. A few are a bit better.
Synthetics have a few advantages. They're much better at either very low or very high heat, and their thermal and oxidation stability gives them longer oil life. Anybody who drains synthetic oil every 3000 miles and doesn't live in Minnesota in the winter or Dealth Valley in the summer is wasting money.
