1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "sequoia vs tahoe", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
new ones or what year model in particular............If new.....i would wait and see what toyota comes out with for the 2008's before buying, if old i think it would be a toss up between the two......it was for me, i wanted t tahoe but found a sequoia.....so far no regrets
Well I am looking at the 07 Tahoe I know I can get a better deal on the tahoe although it seems like all the chevy dealers are crooks
The new Tahoe is an excellent product, and is a 2007 design vs the Sequoia's elderly 2001 design - the tahoe SHOULD be alot better than the Sequoia. It has more power, more towing, better mpg, and maybe even a better interior and more quiet these days. Comparing an old Tahoe to an old Sequoia, Sequoia hands down.
I would wait on the 08 Sequoia - its new powertrain will be far better than the Tahoe's, especially if you need towing and space. The current Sequoia is still a rock solid, refined vehicle.

Your right at first Yoda won't deal but wait about six months and then the rebates , and the 0% financing will start kicking in right around the time gas prices pass's $3.50 a gallon then you'll see them wheelin, and dealin just like with the new Tundra its inevitable. I'm ready to trade my 06 Seqouia at the right time when the 08's come out I will be ready!
Wow! I can't believe how many Tahoe supporters there are out there! Then again, in all honesty, I haven't been in one of the new ones. All I can say is to a large degree you get what you pay for. The Sequoias run, after all wheeling & dealing, about $5k more than the Tahoe and Expedition (based on my 2004 purchase). I got $10k more truck, at least.
While I know the Tahoe is a decent truck, I think the Seq is awesome. You really can't compare apples to apples, until you've waited for the new one to come out in a few months. Then, I'll bet there's still a $10k difference in value and a $5k difference in haggle-finished price.
Good luck. Either way, you probably won't go wrong. I'm just very, very pleased w/ the Seq & won't go back to Ford or Chevy.

I have not looked at the sequoia and I can not wait till 08 come out
but I might go look at the 07 just for kicks I might fall in love
I prefer the new Yukon Denali over the Tahoe/Suburban and I think you can get one for about the same price as a loaded Sequoia with all the discounts GM gives. Almost identical performance/features (same engine) as the Escalade but at a more reasonable price and conservative styling. I wouldn't trade my Sequoia in for one though.
We had this same tough decision back in April. I needed a bigger vehicle and were deciding between the two. Since I am on this forum, you can guess what I bought. We test drove both vehicles, looked at all the features, and even put our two carseats in them. Basically, we liked the exterior look of the Tahoe better and the interior of the Sequoia the best. Since the interior is what mattered to us, we chose the Sequoia. The Seqouia has much more legroom inside in both the 2nd and 3rd rows. It is actually longer than the Tahoe and just squeezes into my garage. But, the difference in interior legroom is dramatic. Plus, the Tahoe barely fit our two carseats comfortably and in the Sequoia, the carseats in the second row are so far away that I am not kicked by my 3 year old at all!
Plus, I think the Sequoia drives much better. The Tahoe is a much more truckish and bumpy ride. The Sequoia drives very smooth. Now, I liked the bells and whistles in the Tahoe that the Sequoia did not offer---rear camera, button-controlled removable seats, etc. But, I am happy with my purchase!
When shopping in '03-'04, I liked the Tahoe best. Looked better, memory seats, adjustable pedals, middle seat folddown armrest had storage & cupholders....
But my wife is short, and the Sequoia gave her clear vision all around. In the Tahoe, even with the seat adjusted as far up and forward as it would go, her front vision was directly at the windshield wipers. If it was going to be primarily my car, the decision would have probably gone the other way.
I haven't been unhappy with the Sequoia yet, exept I wanted a black one.

I basically feel the same way. I was looking back in '02, and I was leaning towards the Tahoe. But the wife has been in a Toyota for years, and loves them. Since she was going to drive it the most, I figured we should check them out at least. So I decided to test drive the Sequoia.
I definitely liked the interior better, and the drive was slightly more comfortable. All in all, I have no regrets about getting the Sequoia.
After doing more research after buying the car, I realized how much better the resale value is also...
note: although, when we do start shopping for another car... I may have to look at the Denali's again.. the new ones are nice!
