1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "05 Sequoia Hitch Wiring Harness Instructions????", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
my dealer is retarded, they said they dont have instructions they can give me. Please can someone email, mail, or fax me the instructions for installing the hitch wiring harness for a 2005 Sequoia 2WD???
no, the wiring kit is custom from Toyota because it has to connect to the front of the SUV. It cost $130.00 and the auto stores don't make the kit due to the risk of electrical problems. It's crazy complicated.
I have the same thing on my 07 and it took bout 2hours to install. Turns out none of my electrical outlets work and they messed up my immaculate interior with oily finger prints. Also they use these giant air powered tools to tighten the bolts on my trailer hitch and they used a power tool to tighten the screws in the interior side panel. It seems toyota mechanics like to tighten things until the crack or warp. I bet a 4 year old cud do a better job.
Your TOY already prewired. If you bought the car without towing package, you can purchase a plug-and-play wire from TOYOTA dealer on line. it cost about $40 to $45 and one Factory relay to make it work. You can verify this by looking at the bottom of your car on the left side of the spare tire (NOT on the muffler side), there is a round piece of black rubber on the main frame, pull this out, you can see the connector there. Also you can purchase the hitch from Drawtire branch. It cost about $150 and it is exactly factory hitch. I will gather all stuffs you need and I will post with the pictures on next weekend. Please stay tune for this update.

Here is more info from my previous poated.
Even you don't purchase the towing package, Toyota already pre run the wire to a lower left side under bottom of your truck. There is a black rubber piece covered it. You pull this out then you can see a connector. You don't need to cut or modify anything. There are 2 things require to make this work. 1) purchase the harness wiring from Toyota on the Web, pull the black rubber piece, plug harness in. 2) purchase one factory relay , open a fuse box next to the battery and plug this relay in and you are ready to go. There are 2 harness cables you can purchase from TOYOTA Web. The round one with 7 pins cost around $75. The flat one with 4 pins cost around $40. Relay cost $25. This will save you a lot of money. I did it myself 2 years ago for my 2003 Seq and my friend 2005 TOY recently. I also purchase Drawtide hitch for $125 at a local RV dealer.
Towing wiring harness Part number is 82169-34012
The relays part number is 9098702012
If you can't find these at toyotaparts4u.com, Genuine Toyota OEM Auto Car Parts & Toyota Truck Accessories, just give them a call at 1 877 568 7348. This is a website I purchased all these. You also can find these parts on this website as well. Just select your type of your car and type in the part number. This will give you a price for each item and this is OEM parts. TradeMotion
Good luck!

Hello there. This is my first time writing in a forum, so I am not to sure of the protocal, but I have been reading the thread and I have purchased the harness and relay. I looked underneath my 05 Sequoia but could not find the plug. I then opened up the inside panel and there are several plugs there, but none seem to match the harness I bought.
I was wondering if you got yours to work. if you did could you give me some help. If anybody has been succesfull at this ungodly task, please help. I already did the splicing of the wires and was told be the dealer mechanics that it caused a short. I am now at my wits end.

I did this this weekend on my 04 SR5 2WD. I found the prerun wire and ordered the harness and relay. This weekend I installed the harness and relay (took a whole 5 minutes). But when I plugged it in to a trailer none of the lights worked. When I tested the pins with my meter it was registering that it was working. So I'm a little baffled. I performed the same meter test on my other truck with the same results. I haven't hook my other truck up to the trailer yet though.
I was wondering if someone who has added the wiring harness to a non-tow package Sequoia could tell me how you mounted the 4 pin adapter end to the truck. I have the harness plugged in and can see where one of the frame connections go, but I cannot tell where I should be mounting the end of the harness. It has two holes to run a bolt through, but I was wondering if the metal sleeves in the hole are for grounding. The harness did not come with instructions. If someone has a picture it would be great. Thanks!!
