1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "extended warrenty worth the $$ (used)", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I bought my 02 rig last week and the dealer didn't mention that an ESP was available. While trolling the threads here, i have seen some posts that indicate that one was available from Toyota. My experience so far has been that the previous ESP's I've bought might not have paid off.
Wondering what those of you might have to say on this? Seems like some expensive repairs are lurking - traction computer and the like - but not sure how prevalent these are.
Because of the age, you can't get the new car service plan. You can get a used car plan through Toyota, depending on how many miles are on the vehicle. As to whether or not they are worth the money, I can't answer that for you. I tend to be a fan of the new car Platinum plans, but am undecided on the used car plans.

I guess the 4-1-1 is: one WAS available on the DAY i bought the Sequoia from the dealer (7 days ago). I didn't know, they didn't offer. I'm guessing that brought to their attention, they would offer me it. It's only available through the selling dealer, as I understand it.
The "platinum" is available for 1 yr / 12000 miles. Retails for $1775, figure the 100% markup and for somewhere around $900 could be had. For the length of time offered, I guess my thought is to pass. If the 4WD computer goes out, it would pay for itself, but other then that, I don't think I'd get my $ back. (door latches and handles are not covered according to posters here)
I dunno, with my Ford ESP I broke about even, except for the $100 deductables, but it was a 4 year! (lots of ball joints replaced on that club wagon!)
But you veterns have a much better handle (no pun intended) on repairs.
I bought my 02 a few months ago and it was TOYOTA CERTIFIED, which includes up to 100,000 mile power train warranty or to 2009. Then they offered me another warranty thru toyota that covers everything non-rubber and brake pads/rotors....I mean everything...speakers, radio, seat belts, window motors, HVAC, and so on. It was only $600!!!! I bought it. I am a mechanic and I know $600 is nothing in todays vehicles. Hell at 90k or so I'll get manifolds done even if they aren't that bad!!!!!
Yea - mine was a non-certified I believe. It was a hellava buy - I never imagined I would buy a SUV with 90k. I could not pass it up.
So how long is the toyo warranty you bought good for? How many miles does your Sequoia have? Not sure about 'everything' non-rubber. I have read the exclusions and it seems all encompassing, but posters here have said broken door handles were not covered - although looking through 'non-covered items' door handles are not listed .. .. so go figure. $600 bones sounds like great price too.
