Default How to Unlock the Full Functionality of the OEM Navigation (2006 Sequoia)

Guys,
I've been on the internet looking at aftermarket nav units and researching the "unlocking" of our OEM units since lunch. Needless to say...information overload. Here's what I've got....

2006 Toyota Sequoia Limited with OEM navigation
Dual headrest LCDs, each with their own independent DVD player

I do not have what most folks call the rear seat entertainment because there is no common DVD player to all monitors. However...here is what I want to do. I know this HAS to have been a hot topic on here since I've found a few threads on here and SEVERAL on ClubLexus.com about it.

I was deadset on an aftermarket setup, but would really prefer to keep the OEM look (and not spend $3,000). Not to mention the aftermarket system will have to be hacked just like the OEM one I've got now.

I found this site on the internet today and it's received most of my attention since...
Toyota/Lexus Audio,Video and Information Solutions (Lexus Auxiliary input,Lexus iPod integration,Lexus XM integration)
Their products integrate very easily into our OEM setups and still maintain the steering wheel controls. It also displays all your satellite radio info and Ipod info on the OEM screen. Pretty sweet considering it's only about $550 for their sat radio box, Ipod box, and then a sat radio tuner/antenna and the install is very easy. Doesn't do anything for the GPS though.

I would like to upgrade to a video Ipod and hook it into this. In doing so, I will need to be able to play video on the main OEM nav unit. More importantly....I WANT MY WIFE TO BE ABLE TO USE THE FREAKIN NAV UNIT WHILE WE ARE DRIVING!!! It's absolutely nuts that these manufacturers are making these units such that you can only use them in park or at a stop. I mean just what good are they? I know all about coastaletech.com but it doesn't look like they have much support for the Sequoia. Anyone had any luck with their "Lockpicks" on a Sequoia?

Anyone that has successfully unlocked the full functionality of their OEM GPS and/or video playback on their OEM nav screen...please post a response. My brain is almost fried at this point! Thanks in advance guys.

Matt

There is plenty options you can do with your Sequoia Navigation.

1. what you've described above
2. buy another kit from ebay Toyota Camry Navigation Nav TV Video Converter PLG&PLY - (eBay item 220169551608 end time Nov-17-07 10:55:41 PST)
to watch video on your navigation
3. Don't get OEM and go after with market unit.

As for me, I like to stick with OEM unit, since my car still under warranty.

Hope that helps

Well I don't have the "rear seat entertainment" as described by Toyota. I have dual LCD monitors in each of the headrests, each with their own DVD player inside the monitors. So there is no central DVD player that would be common to all screens.

This unit you posted on ebay is strictly a video input. It doesn't appear to do anything to hack the GPS. That's mainly what I want...full functionality of the GPS while driving although hooking up a video Ipod to the front screen would be nice.

We already have the stock OEM unit installed. It was in the Sequoia when we bought it. All of the aftermarket units are more expensive ($2,500 once I add backup camera, Ipod adapter, Sirius, Bluetooth, Steering wheel control adapter, etc) and they don't look as good as the OEM units plus they still need to be hacked. I'd like to keep it as simple (and inexpensive) as possible and stick with the OEM unit we've got. I just want to find someone who has successfully hacked a 2006 Sequoia navigation unit and exactly how they did it. There's a lot of info on ClubLexus.com but surely someone on here can chime in since.....I don't own a Lexus! Thanks guys.

Well, I have - I believe - a newer version of a navigation, then what you have. The only thing I believe that you can is turn overide on, so you can enter destinations as you drive.
as far as have your screens work in your nav unit, most likely it will not, untill you'll buy that box (thats listed on e-bay)
another thing, about 2 units in headrests, they are not integrated with your NAV system, that i know off, so they are tottaly independant systems (similar to aftermarket units) - My friends Lexus GX470 has those screens built into his headrests, and they don't work on nav screen even with overide and parking brake on, and in shifter is in park position.

so here is my verdict: YES you do have a nice system! but, anything else you would like to make work, you have to buy small boxes - that converts signal and makes your Nav system recognize either satelite radio, or i-pod, or your existing dvd system-thats in your car already. Its simple, and makes less headache for you (it may be a bit pricey)

Definitely going with the VAIS Tech Ipod and Sirius adapters. It looks like there is an Eclipse camera (model BEC105) that will be a direct plug and play into our OEM navigation unit as well. I've got posts in a couple other threads on this.

I'd like to just use the Coastaletech.com harnesses for the audio/video display (yes...I realize I'll only be able to see video on the front screen via the Ipod but that is fine...I can always add a stand alone DVD player later for the front) but I'm not sure that Coastaletech has a completely function harnesses for the Sequoia yet. It will do some of the stuff, but not all of it. The main thing it won't do is allow you to change the destination address while driving or get rid of the "I Agree" message. Hopefully they've got one in R&D. I'm going to give them a call the first of the week and see what they've got going on.

Starting to see the light (for the most part) as to what I need to buy to get the functionality I want, but a lot of it hinges on the Coastaletech.com Lockpick which doesn't look like it's all that great right now for the Sequoia. Keep me posted and I'll do the same. Thanks.

This guy may have figured out a solution to unlocking the nav unit 2007 Toyota Tundra Installation Report by WileETundra.

I haven't tried it but I am considering it after buying a new 2008 Sequoia.
