Leather vs Plastic vs Vinyl

Remember the days when you would upgrade from vinyl seats to cloth; then from cloth to leather. What most people probably do not recognize is that todays leather seat is leather "faced". Have we have moved halfway back to vinyl without knowing it? Is the general public being fleeced?

Perhaps it's time to install, at a premium, todays newer high performance fabrics or 100 percent leather.

Actually more often then not the sides aren't leather they are vinyl or plastic like materials. The seat and back are the leather pieces.

Exactly, there not much cow hide on the seat but that single strip of leather does carry a premium.

and i thought it was cloth seats as base with vinyl as an upgrade, then leather. i don't remember cadilacs or lincoln ever having full leather seats
as far as new vehicles, they say leather seating surfaces

those are actual toyota upholstry not just covers and they are more leather than the original seats i had in my 2001 limited, those were more like vinyl.
as far as downgrading .... no what your getting was an 1800.00 dealer option.
i feel it renewed my truck, gave it that new car smell

I looked at my original window sticker for my 02' LTD Sequoia, and it stated the seats were leather faced. You can tell the sides are vinyl.

Jadz: I did see a set of those TRD leather kits, and I wondered how you like them? I wanted to try and get a set, but the set I found was about three times as expensive. Let me know if you end up selling yours, as I'm looking to get mine repaired if I don't find some.
