Re: lift problem VSC ENGAGING
Hey Nate, about a month ago I did a 2 inch lift with upper control arms and Icon coilovers in the front, spacers and Icon FJ shocks in the rear. Love it and had no unusual VSC activation until I put new tires on last week. I was running P rated Pirrelli Scorpion ATR (265/65 17). These are really a pretty low profile highway tire with stiff sidewalls and sporty onroad handling. Last week I put on P rated 265/70 17 NItto Terra Grapplers. Since then, I've had the VSC activate on several freeway transitions and really exessively off road. Around town, I was trying to run lower air pressure (about 30 psi) for comfort, but the taller tire seems to make the handling kinda squirrely at that pressure - at least that's what I'm thinking at this point.
Offroad this last weekend, running about 18 psi, the VSC activated very often in gravel and sandy washes - not what I wanted to have happen. I shifted to 4Hi and locked the center differential (turns VSC off) which solved my problem by making response more predicatable when turning in loose conditions.
On road, I upped the pressure to 32ish and it seems to have reduced the problem. Threw it around a little this morning and couldn't get it to activate. Still thinking about the issue though so I did a search and found your posting - l love TS!
I do have to say the VSC is generally a little more sensitive on the road, which I would expect with the lift (even with the lower profile Pirrellis). When I threw it into a corner really hard, it went off a little easier. It used to be nearly impossible to make it activate.
I haven't heard anyone else experience this, but at this point, it seems the tires have a big effect. I would welcome anyone else's experience/comments.
