1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Can't get smooth ride", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I've got an 04 Seq Ltd 4wd and ever since I've replaced my latest tires, my ride isn't smooth at highway speeds I wore out the Dueler Revo's and replaced with Pirelli scorpions. Installer did alignment, new rear brakes and balance in Jan. After 2 weeks of vibration I went back in and they had to rebalance tires. 3 weeks later still vibration problem. Another rebalance and installer said all tires balance out perfect and rims aren't warped/bent. Still vibration though. Called tire rack and they sent out 2 new Pirelli's to replace any 'bad ones'. Installer replaced 2 bad ones and now I get vibration in rear @ 50mph and in steering wheel @ 62-65. At 60+mph, steering pulls to right. Switching to another installer may be next step but wondering if there is something else that might be causing this problem. Ride was smooth with old tires...
What happens if you put the two good front wheels and tires on the back? Does the vibration in the back go away? If so, then you've narrowed down the problem to two tires or wheels.
Are the wheels aftermarket? Mine caused a pull to the right no matter what tires I used so I put back the stock wheels.
They are stock rims. They took the front tires and moved to back and switched rear tires with new and put on front. Still problems. I'm going to try to have them adjust alignment with castor upped.
Had exactly the same problem, including the 2 extra tires. Dealer Roadforced the tires and picked the best ones, and problem continued. Had them replaced with Michelin LTX M/S and problem solved.
4 of mine were hot as I drove @ 50 miles to get roadforced. They had no answer as to why they couldn't get a good ride from these tires, but my old tires (Michelins and also Blizzaks) plus the new Michelins rode fine and tracked true.
5th time to balance the wheels. I had them do alignment based on recs. for castor, toes and camber. Still had tons of vibration. No explanation but they are going back. Either Michelins now or Yokohamas. Had Revos but were noisy.
I ended ordering new Yokohama Geolanders mounted/balanced on new rims from tire rack. We get a much smoother rider but I still get the vibration between 55-65mph only not all the time. I can drive with cruise on, nice and smooth, then I can feel the vibration build and steering wheel shake for a few miles and it gradually dissipates. When it vibrates, Seq pulls to right. Any thoughts...had alignment done when new Yokos mounted. I don't think it's a balance problem because its intermittent and certain speeds.
Had the same problems with less than 200 miles after sale, Dunlop tires had road noise, front end to pull to the right and wearing on outer edge of front right tire. After 4 alignments and rotations, Toyota dealer finally repalced all four tires with Michelin Cross Terrian Tires. Recently eplaced with same Michelin tires at 79,000 miles with no problems. Michelin, Yokohama Tires are a good match for the Sequoia. Go to Discounttire.com and read reviews on tires.
I put the Geolanders on and still had vibration. Took "Bus" into Toyota and they road force balanced all tires and had to dismount and remount 2 tires. tire rack is reimbursing me for up to 20.00/tire for rebalance. The tires are choppy in AM (still mid 30's here) but warm up in 1/2 mile to be smooth....
