Question 01 Sequoia - Rack bushings available?

Took my Sequoia in this morning for a front end alignment cuz the steering wheel was a bit off center. I was told that the alignment was fine...the problem is that the rack is moving from side to side because the bushings are about shot.
They checked around several parts houses and nobody has bushings...only a new rack for a cool $400+.
Do any of you guys know if there is a bushing kit available for the front rack? I figured I'd start here first cuz my local stealership ain't got any rocket scientists working there!
Please let me know what you know.....
Thanks
Todd

I know you have this posted in the 1st Gen Tundra as well..
Let me know what you find out.
I don't think anyone with a Sequoia has changed their busings.
(Unless I am wrong and people can you chime in?)

My steering wheel is a tad bit off as well.
I thought it was because of the Steering Boot I replaced to reduce the engine noise.
But the more I think of it, I may have worn bushings.

Also, from just reading the forums about these, I think it would be an improvement to change them out.

My concern is the level of difficulty.
And I dont know of if Wheelers bushings fit a Sequoia. (they are Listed for the Tundra)
I just sent them an email to find out.
If they fit, I JUST MIGHT.... (might) tackle the swap myself.

Talking Re: 01 Sequoia - Rack bushings available?

The guys over in the Tundra forum hooked me up!
There's a bushing kit from Wheelers off road available for only $28! I called them and they said it would work on the Sequoia too.
Ordered a set today....we'll see how it goes this weekend.

Let me know how easy or hard it is to change them out.
I'll let you be the test pilot!
I think I may buy a Kit just to have on hand in case you say it is not so hard.
Then I'll attempt it.

Smile Re: 01 Sequoia - Rack bushings available?

I installed them on my 2002 Sequoia about 2 years ago and have never had any trouble. They were very easy to install with the aid of a floor jack. Vibration does not exist after the install.

BUMP....

Did you get these installed?
Did they correct the steering wheel from being off?

Hey I saw your post and have been having similar problems with my 2005 SR5 4WD. I ordered the bushings and installed them this weekend.
The ride is remarkably improved. I no longer have my steering wheel vibration at 60+ mph, or worry that I have a bad differential. Steering is crisp. The steering wheel is still slightly tilted left, but I plan on getting alignment done to the posted specs anyhow.

So.... this was an inexpensive and easy upgrade I would recommend to everyone.

Finally got around to installing the bushings last evening.......and it wasn't exactly fun.
Had a problem with the center nut....couldn't get it off and ended up rounding the edges off and made a mess. Because of it's "recessed" location, a cut off wheel wouldn't fit and there were too many wires around to torch it, so I had to use a dremel tool and cut the nut off. Took over an hour and a half and about 8 broken dremel disks and 1 dremel disk shaft and quite a bit of cussing! Total elasped time for the job.....about 3 1/2 hours.
Besides that, it went together fairly easy. The only other PITA issue was getting the center bolt back in due to the lack of access, a new untaperd bolt and the thicker poly bushings.
Steering wheel is now off slightly but steering feels tighter and wander is gone. Heading for another FEA next week to correct wheel.
I recommend the project.
