1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Hitch Update", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I ended up getting a used OEM hitch off ebay for 100 dollars. It didnt come with any hardware so im wondering if i should get the toyota bolts or just get some from the hardware store? Also, what is my next step with the wiring?
Hitch is easy to install, and most of the sequoia (as many as i've seen) are already prewired. If needed, I can swing by in my sequoia, and you can take a look

there is no need for you to look on that.
I live close to laurel rd.
If you look on a drivers side under your car, you will see to wire plugs (you can buy a connector with plugs in discount auto parts)
on a drivers side where parking brake located, there is white plug, that one is made for brake controler.
I you need, i will take pictures later (my friends 2005 Sr5 came prewired, that is how i know)

Tinik,
Can you snap some pics for me? I looked by the parking brake but didnt see any white plugs. I also looked under the car and didnt see any wire plugs.
they are there (with a dummy plug in them, so they don't get dirty)
another thing is, you might need a tow computer (located very close to glove box) - but i think - most likely you have it.

Good news..I found the brake controller wire under the left kick panel. It was pretty far back and taped to some other wires. I think I found the trailer hook up under the frame. In your pic it shows 2 plug ins. One grey and one black on top of each other. Mine has the grey one but i don’t see either one of the wires that go into the black connector. Any ideas? I think I am just going to pick up a cheap 4 pin, flat connector to pull the wave runner. I will eventually need a 7 pin to tow a travel trailer but cant find anything OEM for cheap.

I am looking at a used 2005 Sequoia without the factory tow package.
The dealer has installed a hitch, but only a 4-pin connector connected into the factory tail light harnesses.
Trouble is, I *need* the 7-pin connector so I can use trailer brakes. The dealer isn't really sure if the vehicle wiring harness is there to support a 7-pin.
Can anyone confirm that a 2005 Sequoia *without* the factory tow option does indeed have the supporting wiring harness, including the connector up near the driver-side kick panel?
I would like to be able to buy a 7-pin harness/connector to replace the 4-pin one and a brake controller and both be plug-and-play. I *don't* want to have to run wires from the front to rear and any associated relays and brake pedal interfaces.
I have a 2001 Sequoia that came from the factory with flat-4 connector on the OEM trailer hitch. I too needed to add 7-pin receptacle and trailer brake controller. I purchased a 7-way 4-way conversion kit complete with front-to-rear wiring harness from etrailer, p/n ETBC7 (Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit - 10 Gauge ETBC7 : Trailer hitch bike rack and trailer hitches - etrailer.com). All I had to do in the rear was plug the kit's 4-way male connector to the Sequoia's factory 4-way female connector and tuck that way neatly up under the frame. Then all that was missing was the two wires that were run up front with the included jacketed wire. One wire comes from the brake controller and the other provides ACC power (via key-switched relay) in case your trailer has dome lights, etc. The rest of the install included a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller (from my Tundra where I upgraded to a Tekonsha P3). I tied the controller's signal input wire to my break pedal switch after reading posts in the towing forum on TS. I also made sure to tie the break controller power and ground directly to the battery as specified by Tekonsha.
Speaking of, the towing forum on TS has a lot of great information for wiring this up. That's where I learned to relay the ACC power circuit to the trailer and also install a 30A circuit breaker off the power lead from the battery.

Can anyone with a factory tow package confirm the presence of relay P/N 9098702012 ?
Even better, would be a picture of the relay installed in the fuse panel.
My dealer did something similar to the post above wiring a flat-4 into a 7/4 with additional wires, including a 30A circuit breaker off the power lead from the battery.
But the right turn signal and brake lights are not working properly on my trailer. Running lights and the left signal are working. They hooked up a tester to the flat 4 connector and it seemed to indicate everything was fine.
They say its the trailer, but in trying to diagnose, I looked for the relay and don't see it, or, know if it is really needed.
