Default Trunk Handle Broke

I have an 01 Sequoia and the trunk handle has broken making it impossible to open the tail. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to open it? Is there another release somewhere? Has this happened to anyone else? It looks like I need to get it open to remove the interior and access the assemblies.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Default Re: Trunk Handle Broke

I certain there are a bunch of threads about this...
I basically made a strong 'hook' by doing the following: I took a pair of 'vise grips' and clamped onto the long end of an allen wrench. Then slip the short end of the allen wrench into the slot under the handle. I was able to trigger the lever mechanism by pulling downward with the vise grips. Once you get the hatch open you can take off the inside panel and go at it!
