1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "When to get concerned with ODO miles?", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
My '02 Sequoia Limited has approx 74,000 miles on it and I am wondering if I should be getting concerned about the mileage approaching 100,000? Perhaps this may be just a naging feeling I have left over from past days of owning GM trucks....this is the 1st high mileage Toyota I have owned. I bought it Certified Pre-Owned with 58,000 on it in 2006. My wife, kids, and I take 1500 mile roundtrip road trips about 5 times a year to visit family around the country, and I was wondering if I should put some of those miles on our '06 Tundra which only has 24,000 on it, however, with our two young children and all of their gear, the Seqouia is more convenient in many respects.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Personally, for me, I probably won't unload my 2001 until I'm up over 300k or more. I have a tendency to run things until they die on me and the Toyota's don't usually do that. It's hard to shake that old GM feeling of impending doom, but with good maintenance, the yota will last you a long time.

Don't be afraid... Your Seq won't break for quite a while.
145,000 miles on my wife's 2002 SR5.
- Brake TSB
- Ball Joint Recall
- Timing Belt and Water Pump Service
- Almost ready for the fifth tire change (OEM BStones, Mich XTerrain, BFG LongTrails, GYear Fortera)
- DId a tranny flush @ 50K and 100K, #3 coming soon
- 4th set of front brake pads
- 3rd set off front rotors (2nd were free from Brake TSB)
- 2nd set of rear brake pads
- 1 cracked door handle
- 1 rear window motor replaced (currently dead again or just stuck)
- 1 power antenna (carwash victim)
- front passenger window (victim of a purse snatcher who got away)
- passenger side mirror (victim of wife speedily squeezing through closing mechanical gate)
- dead "D" bulb on dash, replaced with bulb from "2"
- on 3rd battery
- 3rd set of wipers
- 1st Homelink button stuck in the pushed-in position, still works though
If this thing keeps going the way it has, my wife won't be getting a new ride anytime soon.
Mom's has 140K on it now and despite some more noise than it use to have it still runs smooth as silk with no qwirks. She is holding it until 160K or so until they are ready for her new Highlander (Hybrid possibly).

How many quarts did you used on the tranny? just flush and refills?
Don't know...
I think this tranny uses a specific type of fluid, so I took it to the dealer for the change. More expensive but I didn't trust the Goodyears and Tires Plus shops to use the correct stuff.
My 01 has 130,000 miles on it. It has seen thousands of miles in 4wd in the snow in New York, towing 4500 lb boats in Florida, and just going hard on it in general. It has towed massive trees across muddy fields for hours in Florida, climbed up 45 degree mountains in 4WD low in North Carolina and driven for hours in off road courses in Tennessee. It has been driven deep into the middle of nowhere through 180 miles of off road trails non stop in Northern Quebec.
I JUST, at 125k miles on a 7.5 year old battery, changed the battery.
The dealer replaced a leaking manifold for free.
I had the usual bs VSC/trac light issue.
A couple minor bulbs in my overhead console have burned out - fixed them easily.
A right door speaker has blown.
The resonator just disconnected from the muffler due to rust.
This truck has not even as much as a single rattle to it, and the build quality is amazing. Aside from rust underneath it, this thing looks like new, and i've treated the interior well despite hauling various things time and time again. I take care of it, but like I said before, I've used it for what it was intended to do, and have done countless activities with it. I plan on keeping it for quite some time, even with the gas prices. I'll look into getting a motorcycle for daily driving, if need be.
