This is a discussion thread titled "remove instrument cluster", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Does anyone know how to remove the gauge cluster? I removed the 2 bolts holding the black trim in places and from what I have been reading, it’s then held in by clips. I got it loose around most of the way but there is something still holding it in place close to the ignition. Any ideas?
Remove 2 Phillips head screws from black bezel. Remove 3 10mm bolts from the cover piece under the steering column. Pull outward and down under the ignition to allow the black bezel to slide out. Once the black bezel is out, you will see the 4 Phillips head screws holding the instrument gauges in place. now you can slide the gauges out enough to unplug the 2 connections.
I took apart everything last night to see what it would take to change the leds to white. It looks like about 12 small leds mounted to the circuit board. The issue is the gauge faces are tinted green so no matter what color the leds are, they will look green.
Fix: I took some sand paper and removed the green film on the back side of the fuel and temp gauges. I also did the 2-3-d-n-r-p cluster. I wondered why the 2-3-d-r-p lights were dimmer and its because when driving they go dim and only the selected gear is bright. Will post more pics when done sanding all the clusters.
Those gauges look great. Extremely clean and sharp looking. Is that how they came stock or did you do some work to them?
Well tonight I took apart my dash again and took out the gauge face to finish sanding out the green. I left the amber in for the KM/H readings but may turn those white as well. I have some white surface mounted leds coming soon but dont know if im even going to use them since everything is white already. I may replace some things like the turn signals and the 2-3-d-n-r-p lights with the white leds but we will see. I also have some white leds that will be going into the center console to turn those white as well. Also, the scion radio turns deep orange or deep blue so i may match the ignition and cig lighter with either blue or orange to match the radio. When the gauges were out, I saw a green plastic film that went over the odometer so hopefully that taken out will turn it white as well.
As you can see, remembering where the needles should be placed is a step I forgot. Once I get everything final, I will reposition them while the engine is warm and idling.

I will keep you up to date. I'm thinking about putting black tape over the back of the orange KM\h readouts to prevent them from lighting up when the lights are on. I think I like the look of cleaner look of the orange covered up. I photo shopped a pic of what it will look like with the orange readout gone. What do you think?
On mine km/h are in grey, so i barely notice them.
If you want idel look, spray paint them from behind (if needed you can always sand paper) But I like your photoshoped picture better.

Yeah I liked the gauges amberless so I taped the black of the gauges with black electric tape to prevent the white leds from shinning through. I did a great job of blocking out the light and if I ever want to go back, its just tape. The only issue with the final outcome is the light from the needle lights up just barely the numbers under the needle. Its not too bad but its something I noticed after the install. I also took out the green screen in front of the odometer and its as white as the rest of the gauges. Here’s a final picture
The next mod I did was add steering wheel controls. I had the JBL system so it was prewired for them. I bought the controls from parts.com and bought a new airbag from the dealer. I have a guy in the parts dept. that hooks me up with all parts at cost. I then sold my airbag on ebay and ended up making a big chunk of the cost of a new airbag back. I installed it in less than 5 minutes and it fit like a glove. Now I have audio controls.
Next I replaced all the center console lights with white leds. They all snapped out pretty easy and the new ones went in pretty easy as well. The only issue was they were polarized so I had to install a few and hook everything back up to make sure they were in correctly. Now all the lights on the center console are white to match the gauges. It looks great with either the blue or orange head unit lights. I prefer the blue.

I've also bought wooden Steering Wheel from Sienna? from e-bay, and love it.
Steering Wheel Controls - I need to do right side for Navigation (this way I can use my phone options) May be very soon, I will do that.

How long did it take you to do this mod? I want to see it in person, may be I will do this one also... depends how I like it.
Thanks for all of the pictures.

It took about 10 minutes to pull out the center console and replace the lights. The original lights were amber and covered with the green light condoms to make them appear green. I changed all the lights to leds. It was as easy as twisting the twist lock bulbs out and putting the leds in. It took a few tries to the polarity correct. Most places it looks perfect but a few places the light is not as wide as the regular bulbs. I may have to find a way to either alter the leds or find something with a wider beam of light.
