Default Tires Rotation question prior to going on long trip

does it required balance also? it seems like my tires/wheels still has these metal weights on the rims.

I was going to just rotates the front to back and back to front prior to alignment.

You shouldn't have to balance it. The back tires should go straight to the front but the front should criss cross to the back (front driver side to rear passenger, front passenger to back driver side).

There are lots of school of thought as to rotation pattens. So long as you don't have directional tires it shouldn't matter much. The important thing is that you are rotating them. I also agree re-bablance isn't necessary everytime you rotate. I try and re-balance every 20,000 miles or so. Torque the lug nuts with a torque wrench and don't just blast them on with an impact gun.

I agree with ilanboy50 and favor criss-crossing. Toyota Owners Manuals have gone back and forth on this issue over the years and currently do not recommend criss crossing because of the increased risk the owner will complain about tire noise and vibration after a criss cross. But from a tire wear saving perspective, criss crossing is best. The potential tire noise / vibration problem can be minimized IF you rotate every 5000 miles or sooner without fail.
