1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sunshade For Side Windows?", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I am trying to come up with something to put up in the back windows to keep the sun out of our infants face and put up when parking out in the heat. Anyone tried those cheap sunshades or made something themselves?
Rear Profile Window Shade these actually fit the third row well (upside down) and some decent blockage. I also got these Sticky Shade is a Window Film that Acts as a Car Window Shade and actually cut them to fit the triangle window in the second row. I wish they were avaialble in a real large size to fit the roll down window as they were perfect for that function.
Fourth option is a graphics place that does the truck lettering etc. Get a black perforated and stick it on for good.
Might be a little strange also but my dads conversion van has pleated cellular shades that go up and down on the side windows. No visibility but great for blocking light/heat. You can get them custom cut at Home Depot/ Lowes They might even have ones you can see through.
OKAY you can cut these static cling ones to size. They are the same as the "sticky shade one I mentioned but can cover the whole window in dot matrix. I just ordered mine! 36 x 72 will cover second and third rows totally.
Since I live in SUNNY FL, I tinted my sequoia to 5% - 2nd and 3rd row seats (also back window). Front 10% and windshield 50%. I love it, leather doesn't get hot, and dashboad stay cool

Ok I ordered and installed both the pull up shade and the dot matrix on my Sonata. The 47" rear shade fits perfectly in the back, pulls up easily and does a great job of blocking the sun and heat. 2 clips hold it extended and it rolls back in after with no issue.
The static cling was a little more challenge to get it on smooth. I cut it to fit the rear side windows and pressed it on before my 3 day trip with the kids to Hershey. The back of the car was DARK!!! Worked perfectly for what I wanted. NO glare on the TV screens, nice and cool, still able to see out. I was able to roll the side windows down and it did not peel off which was a nice feature.
Combination of my Huper Optik tint and these additions my A/C was on low and actually got too cold for a while where I turned it off. As soon as the doors were opened you knew how hot it actually was in the sun.
I'll try to get pics this weekend and post them up for all to see.
MtTrout-I would get which ever is more convenient for you to use. With the small kids I can say that the static cling left in place is real nice and as they grow have nothing to pull on. You can cut it to fit the wholw window like I did and not worry about sun getting past as you turn etc. If they don't stick well it says just wipe all surfaces clean again and actually place the static shades in the dryer for 2min with a damp towel to recharge.
