Default Rear gate stuck- latch not broken

Please help. I can't open the rear hatch. This was fine before, and today won't open. I've read other threads about broken handles, but the handle is fine. The handle feels intact. Trying to open it feels just like when the car/rear gate is locked. When I pull the latch, it even sound like I can hear the cable pulling toward the bottom of the door, but it doesn't open.
When I unlock/lock the doors, it sounds like it is locking/unlocking at the rear hatch.
Normal function of rear lightling, wipers, and rear window.
Where should I start?
I can't get the gate open to take look.

So I'm replying to my own post. I was able to spray some WD-40 under the bottom of the rear gate and get it open. Further lube of the latch is not preventing it from sticking. It's a little corroded. Is it possible to replace just the bottom latch?

Just make sure that you lube the latch up every month or so and it wont stick. This is a common problem on the Sequoia. Bad design with water and grit running down into the mechanism. I bought some greasless stuff that does not leave a residue for grime to attach to. Good luck!
