1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Check Engine Light", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I hope this question is not stupid. The check engine light just came on in our 2002 Sequoia. I have not had it read yet so I am not sure what it is. It just turned 60K miles. Any chance a code gets thrown like a reminder to let you know you should get the 60K service done? I am willing to bet no but thought I would ask.
Also is KBB private party sale still a valid place to look up the value for it. Thinking if there are some good deals on the new Sequoia may look at upgrading. I am willing to bet there is a slim chance of selling ours private sales with gas prices.
A check engine light will not come on for any maintinece reason. I find that a good way to gauge the value of your vehicle is to look on ebay, auto trader, etc.. Check the markets close to yours and that will tell you what people are asking and you can see just how long it takes for them to sell.
just came back from auto zone because my check engine light came on they checked it out for free told me it was my gas cap reset the code and said if it comes on again i could have a faulty cap.

That is the first thing I re tightened was the gas cap. Light still stayed on but it probally does till you reset it. I am going to go at lunch today and have them check. I will let you know what it is.
Thanks

I got a CEL recently as well. The only other time it came on was due to a loose gas cap, so naturally that's the first thing I checked. I could sense that the OEM cap was going south and sure enough it has loosened, even though I was 110% sure I had tightened it up properly at the last fillup. Hey, and at two tanks a day when towing, that last fillup wasn't a distant memory either!
I threw on a new gas cap, disconnected the battery to reset the CEL, and the CEL has stayed off.

I went to autozone three weeks ago and they said no more free scans. I guess some group of mechanics sued autozone b/c they provide free OBD scans when mechanics could get $50.
