Default 02 Fuel filter

The line leading from the fuel tank to the fuel filter seems to be held on with a red clip. The front has a threaded fitting. The filter itself has a slim fuel line for the inlet.

How does one remove the red clip? Just pull off and slide onto the new filter? Or does it somehow spread apart and then snaps back on?

Thanks

When you get your answer can you post back or PM me on how hard this was to do? I have been thinking about doing this myself if it is fairly easy. Any pics on the location of the fuel filter? If not I will follow the line starting at where you fill it.

Thanks

For the 2002 it is along the frame rail by the driver's side door.

The clip spreads apart and then you have to pry it off. It has 3 places where it holds. Changing the whole bracket is a bit frustrating. It is hard to get to all the bolts. I take the filter out of the strap and just replace it. It has a specific orientation/detents.

It is a whole lot easier the 2nd time you do it

I'm sure my second time will be quicker as well. mcmatt is right twist the red clip and pull it off. I left the filter in the strap as I recall both while removing and re-installing. I felt it gave the fitting more resistance and I didn't have to fight the filter moving around. But to each their own. I will consider his method the next time I change mine. I only found the filter at the dealership with bracekt/strap assembly. It's about a 30 minute job. Take the pressure off the lines before you start the filter removal by running the engine with the fuel pump fuse removed. This won't completly evacuate the fuel line but it helps. Have some rags or a small catch pan handy as some residual gas will still be present. Glasses or goggles are a bad idea either. Once installed replace the fuel pump fuse and check for leaks. If none you're golden and Bob's your Uncle.

Question Re: 02 Fuel filter

Does anybody know which fuse controls the fuel pump? I found several listed for the fuel injection system but nothing specifically identified in the manual as for the fuel pump

Way easy. Decided to keep the original support on the frame and just swap filters.
Broke the front fitting loose with a 19 and 14 mm set of wrenches. Used a small socket to loosen the clamp that goes around the filter. Used a small thin standard blade screwdriver to loosen the red clip. Pop out the filter. Take the hose support off the old filter and place on the new filter. Reinstall. Took ten minutes and spilled about 2 ounces of gas.

I didn't. One of the big fuses in the box under the hood was marked as the fuel pump though . I opted not to pull the fuse. I hadn't driven it for 12 hours, opened the fuel cap and disconnected the line. At MOST two ounces spilled out. The tank was low, maybe three gallons left in it and the driveway has a slight incline
