Default Leaking Transmission? Platinum Warranty?

I have a 2004 Sequoia with the Platinum extended warranty. We're at 50K miles right now.

We've noticed a small transmission fluid leak on our driveway.

I was under the car today and noticed it seems to be coming from the back of the transmission where the driveshaft is connected. It appears that the driveshaft is acting like a flinger and spraying drops of transmission fluid here and there under the vehicle. A coupla the heat shields have small drops of oil coming off.

This would be covered, no? I mean, I would guess the seal at the rear of the transmission housing is where the leak is taking place.

Default Re: Leaking Transmission? Platinum Warranty?

HI Zippy,

Please review my thread about this back in December. I had the same problem. There is actually a Toyota Service Bulletin on this item.. It applies to specifically 2004 Toyota Sequoia's that were actually manufactured in the latter part of 2003..( Check date)
This is a no cost item to you There is a TSB on this have your dealer look it up.

It is the rear transmission seal, at the U Joint. They will have to remove the drive axle and send it to get balanced and replace the seal.

If you do a check of TSB you can find it in there. Print it out and take it to the dealer if they give you any grief. If you have less than 30K miles...They have to fix , after that, they try and blow you off( at least thats what my dealer tried).

Default Re: Leaking Transmission? Platinum Warranty?

I just took the truck in for service today. The service manager called me a coupla hours after I dropped off the Sequoia, saying that something was wrong with the "tail shaft" and that they would need to replace it (under factory warranty) along with part (all?) of the driveshaft.

So even though this was covered under my platinum warranty, it will be covered under the factory warranty instead.
