Re: Aftermarket bang for the buck??????
I had my water pump and timing belt replaced at the same time at 97K. That was about a $700 from toyota. The dealer will usually tell you to replace the both of them together. Mine just happened to be leaking so I went ahead and replaced it.
keep foot out of pedal, replace air filter when needed to with only factory toyota filter, run fuel injector cleaner, clean throttle body and butterfly, mass air flow sensor and air intake every year. My dad never cleaned the tundras and at 120k I cleaned it for the first time. I kept my foot out of the pedal after I cleaned it and i picked up literally 2 mpg better. from 14-16.5 mpg. But if i run it hard i get about 15.3 mpg. The throttle body cleaner, fuel injector cleaner, and mass airflow sensor cleaner you can pick up at any auto parts store even Wal-Mart. I used Vavoline throttle body cleaner, Gum-Out fuel injector cleaner.
Don't replace the air filter with an aftermarket brand. sometimes they aftermarket brand, aka: fram purolater, do not fit as well as the factory air filter. This happened to my moms 02 nissan causing there to be slight gap on the intake box. If you want, you can purchase a cold air intake but, you'll lose a little bit of low end torque. I purchased a K&N FIPK intake used for $100. I'll admit that I did lose a little bid of low end torque but did gain a little bit of top end but not much. Also, DO NOT PURCHASE A THROTTLE BODY SPACER. My dad bought one of these for the truck and I took that piece of junk off and sold it to some idiot. Its a waste of money and all it does it make a whistling sound.
