I must say the GEN 5 nav unit is pretty slick. I picked one up from a siennaclub member for 500$ locally - it was convinient because the guy lived 4 miles from my house. The unit dropped in without issue and worked perfect. The only difference from the E7009 you find OEMValue selling is that at night the buttons have an amber led vs green. It didn't bother me as much as I thought and I found out that you can change the leds really easy for about 60$ by buying a new ribon and installing it in the face. There will be plenty of sienna owners with E7009s that would want the amber ribbon so you'd break even.
Next mods will be the microphone, bluetooth / voice buttons on the steering wheel, and backup camera.

United Radio. You order the ribbon for the E7009. Its 68$. Then you can jump on the sienna forums and sell your ribbon for that much to someone who put a 7009 in their VAN.

I believe this has been an ongoing issue with people upgrading their navs from Gen4 to Gen5 with the Gen4 RES.
The funny thing however is that in diagnostic mode the screens supposedly work and one member has seen the movie flash on the screen but then turn off. I never saw and update to the users issue on whether or not he got it to work.
Its too bad no one took the steps to check the voltages on the connections to see if its a pin issue or a signal issue that prevents the rear screen from turning on. I'd like to keep the RES but if I have to replace it with a standalone unit or new head rests I don't mind.
I'm sure lots of poeple would be happy if soneone solved this one with a switch or new wiring or whatever.

Could you please supply the web site/phone number of the place to order the replacement ribbon cable? A part number would be helpful as well. I'm looking for the ribbon cable for a E7008. I want orange instead of green in my E7009.
Thanks.
BTW, I called "United Radio Service" (I think this was the right place) using the number at their web site, and I was not able to order a part through them. They basically said "we won't do it". So, at least for me, this seems to be a dead end.
If anyone would like to trade a E7009 ribbon cable for a E7008 ribbon cable, please PM me.

Wierd... the guys on the FJcruiser and 4Runner forums have had good luck with URS.
Too bad you're not local, I'd trade you my 7008 for your 7009 and not bother taking the units apart.

I posted a similar question on the Tundra navigation forum. I have an 05 Tundra (1Gen) with E7006 NAV and factory RSE (DVD in console, screen overhead). I have an E7009 on the way as I write this. I expect from what I've researched so far (many hours/forums/threads) that my RSE will stop working. However I'm posing the question: Has anyone ever considered making the RSE function as a stand alone system (audio just on headphones and no front screen display)?
The RSE will work as a standalone system if you plug the R13 connector back into the E7006. A lot of folks have put the 7006 under a seat or in a compartment and the RSE worked that way.
I haven't had time to research the pinouts on the R13 to see what the RSE is looking for voltage wise to come on. I'd like to figure it out but my job keeps me too busy.
