Default 03--how to tap into cig lighter

I have searched the forums and read many posts that have gotten me to the situation im in right now. I have an escort 8500 x50 that im going to hardwire. My two choices for power right now are an add a circuit fuse that i have, or i can splice into the back of the cig lighter. I pulled off the center console part around the radio, and i can see the wires going into the back of the cig lighter. I dont have amultimiter or a voltage tester, but i know there is a power line going into the back of the lighter. Can anyone explain what the wire looks like (color??) or more importantly how to get to it (my fingers are too fat) . Escort provided a wire tap that i would like to use in order to save the add a circuit for a sirius radio which i am waiting for in the mail.

Thanks for the help

The 2 auxilary plugs on the passengers side next to the clock are much easier to get to, you can reach in behind to pull the wires off the plug, tap into it and re-connect it without having to remove any plastic trim work.

Does anybody know how to wire the cigarette lighter and the two power points so that they will stay on even when the ignition is shut off? Also, are the headlights supposed to come on automatically, I have to manually turn mine on and off, even though I see the sensor on the dash. Thanks

When my Dash was replaced they forgot to reconnect the sensor on the dash and I had the same problem briefly. If your lights are not working with the switch in Auto, this is where I would start my troubleshooting. Connection to the sensor or the sensor itself.

Good Luck...
